JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Champion (2021). Stanford University. Office of Postdoctoral Affairs

Stanford Postdoc JEDI Champion Awards are a recognition of current Stanford University postdoctoral scholars who have served as champions of initiatives, activities, or efforts that advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion at Stanford and beyond.

Pritzker Emerging Environmental Genius Award Nominee (2021). University of California Los Angeles

An award of $100,000, given annually to a scientist, entrepreneur, engineer, activist or artist—under the age of 40—who stands poised to make a game-changing difference.

Freda Pagani Award for outstanding PhD thesis (2020). University of British Columbia 

This award is given to the best dissertation of the year in the PhD program of the Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability

Finalist in the Schmidt Science Fellowship (2019). Nominee from the University of British Columbia. 

Selected institutions are invited to nominate their outstanding PhD graduates in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, and computing. I received the nomination from the University of British Columbia, and was a finalist in the competition.

Raja Rosenbluth Award (2018). Faculty of Science, University of British Columbia.

Awarded annually to an outstanding woman in biological sciences at the University of British Columbia

 

Izaak Walton Killam Doctoral Fellowship (2017). Killam Laureates, Killam trusts.

The UBC Killam Doctoral Scholarships are provided annually from the Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fund for Advanced Studies. It was Mrs. Killam's desire that those selected to receive scholarships: "Be likely to contribute to the advancement of learning or to win distinction in a profession. A Killam scholar should not be a one-sided person. . . Special distinction of intellect should be founded upon sound character." Approximately 15-20 awards are made each year to the top doctoral candidates in the Affiliated Fellowships competition. 

GSS cIRcle Open Scholar Award (2017). University of British Columbia, Graduate Student Society, cIRcle

An award for submitting exemplary non-thesis based manuscripts to the Graduate Student Society, cIRcle to the UBC library commons. I was awarded this for a publication I co-wrote with 3 classmated titled: "Ecosystem services in the proposed national park reserve for the South Okanagan : Lower Similkameen region"

Les Lavkulich Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service (2017). University of British Columbia, Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability

The Les Lavkulich Awards have been endowed by colleagues, friends and UBC alumni in honour of Professor Les Lavkulich, who created the Resources and Environment Program in 1979, the first truly interdisciplinary graduate program at UBC. As the program's inspirational leader between 1979 and 2004, he was able, with his unrelenting effort and visionary thinking, to build it into an internationally renowned program. This award is given to IRES students who show commitment to the IRES department and outstanding leadership.

National Geographic Young Explorers Grant (Sep 2016). National Geographic Society

The National Geographic Society's Conservation Trust Advisory Board awarded me a grant in the amount of US$5,000.00 in support of my project "Can functional traits predict the provision of cultural ecosystem services provided by birds?

Freda Pagani Award for outstanding Master's thesis (2016). University of British Columbia. 

The Freda Pagani Award is an award for outstanding Master's thesis. I was awarded this for my thesis entitled: "Exploring attitudes and preferences towards species at risk in British Columbia"

Werner and Hildegard Hesse Research Award in Ornithology (2016). University of British Columbia

The UBC Biodiversity Research Centre and Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences administer research awards endowed via a generous bequest by Werner Hans Herman Hesse in support graduate and undergraduate students engaged in ornithological research on wild birds. I was awarded this grant to conduct my work with tropical birds in Costa Rica.

Four Year Fellowship (Accepted only in name, 2015). University of British Columbia.

Global Graduate Leadership Fellowship (2015). University of British Columbia

The Graduate Global Leadership Fellowships enable promising leaders from developing countries to pursue doctoral studies at UBC. Only two fellowships are offered each year. I was awarded this fellowship to conduct my doctoral studies at UBC.

Beca Colfuturo (2013). Fundación para el Futuro de Colombia- COLFUTURO

COLFUTURO acts as a scholarship/loan and funds Colombian students to study graduate programs abroad. I was awarded this scholarship to conduct my MSc studies at UBC.

R Howard Webster Foundation Fellowship (2013). University of British Columbia/ Green College

Resident Members of Green College are eligible for the R. Howard Webster Foundation Fellowships, endowed by the R. Howard Webster Foundation and the Province of British Columbia. The fellowships are open to graduate students in any field studying at the University of British Columbia who become Resident Members of Green College. Ten to twelve awards, worth $2,000-$2,500 each, are made in a typical year. I was awarded this fellowship upon my entrance as a resident in Green College.
