The delegation of GYBN to the COP13 in Cancun, Mexico

The United Nations Convention of Biological Diversity has its own youth advocacy group, called the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN). In 2016, I attended the Conference of the Parties in Cancun, Mexico and represented global youth in the COP. We advocated for youth to be considered a key stakeholder in the implementation of countries' National Biodiversity Strategic Action Plans.

After the COP, I have been involved with GYBN as a member of the Colombia branch. Most recently, GYBN Colombia launched a position statement regarding the environmental issues associated with the pandemic-induced national strike in Colombia.

I have also worked with my PhD advisor, Prof. Kai Chan to train the Costa Rican delegation to the 2021 CBD COP on transformative change for the Post-2020 Biodiversity Targets.

I wrote a blog post in the CHANS lab website about the science and policy engagement in the COP 13, together with Dr. Charlotte Whitney: Science Contributions to International Policy
